The 7 Benefits of Meditation in the workplace:

This past year has been the year that the CEOs have come out of the closet to share their secret and it has nothing to do with their sexuality. Finally, the benefits of meditation in the workplace has made it to mainstream.

Employers are starting to offer meditation as a way to lower stress, increase productivity, and unleash creativity. Oh, and another biggee, absenteeism goes way down, health care costs decrease and overall contentment goes way up.

Well known companies have added corporate meditation classes and the list includes Apple, Google, Nike, Proctor & Gamble, and Yahoo! (these are just a hand full that have incorporated meditation into the workplace).

This trend is growing as the statistics confirm the long list of benefits to both the employer and the employee. (I personally am high five-ing this is happening).

So here is what you can expect:

1.) Increased Productivity- Those that meditate on a regular basis are able to handle multiple projects with calm, clear, confidence.

2.) Increase Creativity- Meditation stimulates the frontal lobe located towards the front of the brain which is the part where creativity, imagination and problem solving is housed.

3.) Greater Awareness and Clarity- Mediation creates an overall sense of calm and wellbeing which allows more of the senses to be used to take in the environment.

4.) Absenteeism Goes Down- It strengthens the immune system, oxygenates the body, and reduces depression. The overall health benefits are substantial. Chronic pain, heart disease and just about every other illness statistically shows reductions for individuals that meditate.

5.) Better mental focus- One is able to think clearer, become less distracted and become emotionally stronger.

6.) Higher Moral – aka, everyone is happier and just feels better.

7.) Increase Coping Skills – Those that meditate have the ability to stay in control and loose it less often, if ever. They rate high on EQ scale (emotional intelligence score).

And the crazy good part of all of this, the expense vs the benefit to companies that bring this powerful practice in internally, makes it one of the most efficient ways to add to the bottom line.
